The house sits in an early twentieth-century building in the centre of Palermo, with interconnecting rooms and frescoed pavilion vaults. The clients wanted a contemporary home that respected the historic value of the apartment and held their large collection of books, old and new, along with the family grand piano from the early 1900s.
The main outcome of the work was to increase natural light throughout the space with new openings in the masonry. A long bookcase runs across the three main rooms, just below the springing of the vaults, becoming a ribbon that wraps the space.
