Routes, display, light and stockroom thought out on the shop's numbers, before choosing any furniture. Three spaces made in Palermo and Malta, and the principles we follow.
Per chi vendeFor those who sell
«Quanto espongo? How much do I display? Where does the till go? Does light really sell?" These are the questions of anyone opening or renewing a shop, and the answer is not furniture: it is a system. Here you find how we build it, with three spaces we made in Palermo and Malta, and the retail principles we apply before drawing.
I principi del retailRetail principles
Un negozio funziona A shop works se lo spazio vende prima di chi ci lavora.when the space sells before the staff does.
Sei regole semplici, verificate su ogni spazio commerciale che abbiamo disegnato: valgono per una boutique di 60 metri quadri come per uno store multibrand di 600.Six simple rules, verified on every commercial space we have designed: they hold for a 60-square-metre boutique as for a 600-square-metre multibrand store.
01
Whoever enters slows down after a few steps: there you welcome, you do not sell. Then the route must lead to the products that matter, with no dead ends, and close at the till. It is drawn in plan, before anything else.
02
A display unit is judged by how much it can change: heights, density, solids and voids. The product at eye level sells, the one down low gets searched for. The system must follow the collections, not the other way round.
03
A product is seen if it is lit three times more than what surrounds it. Diffused light sets the tone, accent light guides the eye, the window speaks to passers-by. Colour temperature is part of the brand.
04
La sogliaThe thresholdè la prima venditais the first sale
Window, sign, entrance and the first metres say who you are before any product. Matter, proportion and visual silence make the brand recognisable from the street, and repeatable in a second store.
05
Il magazzinoThe stockroomè parte della venditais part of the sale
A shop lives on restocking: if the back room is far, cramped or untidy, the floor empties on the days that matter. The stockroom is designed with the floor, close by, reachable in a few steps, without crossing the customers.
06
Lo stock in salaStock on the floorsi vede uno, se ne tengono diecishow one, keep ten
Drawers under the counters, low shelves as reserve, cabinets that look like walls: the goods sit within arm's reach of the seller, but the eye sees a single product, in the right light. It is what sets a boutique apart from a warehouse.

Super F#, uno store che si riconfigura.a store that reconfigures itself.
Seicento metri quadri multibrand a St Julian's. Finito nel 2023.Six hundred square metres of multibrand store in St Julian's. The problem: two entrances and collections that change every season. The solution: a cylindrical glass-and-steel display that intercepts the flows and distributes them along a free route, a comb system that moves the rails without screws, and light working in degrees: beams on the garments, washes on the walls, cuts along the route. Completed in 2023.
bulthaup, uno showroom che è una casa.a showroom that is a home.
Finito nel 2018.One hundred and forty square metres on one of Palermo's most elegant streets, for the b1, b2 and b3 systems. The problem: selling kitchens worth tens of thousands of euros without the feel of a shop. The solution: no counter, no corridor; the islands move apart and closer, opening pauses and views, serena stone, Douglas fir and warm 2700 K light. You walk in as into a home and stay long enough to look. Completed in 2018.
Finito nel 2020.Two hundred and fifty square metres that until the eighties were a house with a garden. The problem: displaying furniture from different brands without making it look like a catalogue. The solution: black lines set into the masonry that order floor, walls and ceiling, a route that bends and opens without ever showing everything, and light in scenes: grazing on the resins, focused on the tables, linear along the passages. Completed in 2020.

Come verifichiamo cosa esporreHow we check what to display
Prima dell'arredo, Before the furniture, i numeri del negozio.the shop's numbers.
We do not start from style but from the assortment: what you sell, how much, with what turnover. From there come the linear metres of display, the routes and the light. The rest we tell at the studio, with the projects in front of you.
01
L'assortimentoThe assortmentletto prima del disegnoread before the drawing
How many products, in which families, with what turnover and what margin. It is the figure that says how much display is really needed and how much instead takes space from what sells.
02
I percorsiThe routesprovati in piantatested in plan
Entrance, arrival zone, main route, pauses, till: we draw and measure them on paper, with the hot spots for what matters and the cold ones where nothing should go.
03
For every zone a diffused level, an accent on the products, a window that holds up to the sun. Scenes that change with the hour and the collection, decided together with the display, never afterwards.
04
How much stock belongs on the floor and how much in the back is told by turnover, not by the fear of running out. We size the shelving and drawers needed and hide them where they steal no space.
05
Il rifornimentoRestockingsenza incrociare i clientiwithout crossing the customers
Where the goods come in, at what time, through which door, where they are unpacked and checked: a second route, invisible to the customer, so the shop restocks while it sells and nobody sees a box.
06
A three-dimensional model and renders with the real products, in the real quantities: you see what works and what does not while moving it costs a line, not a demolition. Then we build.
Il budget, prima del progettoThe budget, before the design
Quanto costa? How much does it cost? You know before a single line is drawn.
We do not publish prices per square metre: a boutique, a showroom and a concept to be repeated are three different stories. We do something more useful.

At the studio or on the premises, with the floor plan and the assortment: you tell us what you sell and to whom, we tell you what can be done. It is how we get to know each other, before any commitment.

What it costs to build the space you have in mind and how long it takes, in black and white, with a check of the premises, the routes and how much display is really needed.
03
Un costoA feeche torna indietrothat comes back to you
The feasibility study has a fee, agreed together. If you go ahead with the design it is deducted in full from the proposal: not an extra expense, an advance on the work.
The unexpected can happen, but it is small: from the average of more than 290 completed projects, around 3% of the budget in non-historic buildings and 5% in old ones. If design starts after demolition is done, it drops to zero.

Domande frequentiFrequently asked
Le domande di chi apre o rinnova un negozioThe questions of those opening or renewing a shop
Quanto costa progettare un negozio? How much does it cost to design a shop?
It depends on the premises, the assortment and how long it has to last: that is why we do not publish prices per square metre. We tell you before drawing: after the first meeting, a feasibility study gives the construction cost of the space you have in mind. It has a fee agreed together, deducted from the proposal if you go ahead.
Quanto ci vuole per aprire? How long does it take to open?
The design timing is written into the proposal, stage by stage. Site timing depends on the premises and the contractor, and is written into the contract with them. If there is an opening date to meet, we start from it and build the calendar backwards.
Posso restare aperto durante i lavori? Can I stay open during the works?
For a zone-by-zone renewal, yes, with the works organised in phases and a temporary display. For a full refit, no: systems, floors and lighting are redone together, and selling inside a building site costs more than closing. We plan it in the schedule, with the reopening date.
Come decidete quanto esporre? How do you decide how much to display?
From the assortment, not the furniture: how many products, with what turnover and what margin. From there we work out the linear metres of display needed and draw the routes that lead to the products that matter. Displaying too much hides what sells.
La luce conta davvero?Does light really matter?
La progettiamo a scene, insieme all'esposizione. It is the salesperson who never tires. A product is seen if it is lit about three times more than what surrounds it; diffused light sets the tone, accent light guides the eye, the window has to hold up to daylight. We design it in scenes, together with the display.
Can the concept be repeated in other stores?
Yes, if it is born as a system: threshold, route, displays and light defined as rules, not as furniture tailored to a single premises. So the second shop is recognisable from the first, costs less and opens sooner. We decide it at the start, in the brief.
Do you have a shop to open or renew?
Raccontaci il negozio: ti rispondiamo entro 24 ore e fissiamo il primo incontro.Tell us about the shop: we reply within 24 hours and set up the first meeting.
