Un negozio non è finito il giorno dell'inaugurazione. Cambiano i marchi, cambiano le stagioni, cambia il modo in cui la gente entra e si muove. Un allestimento pensato come arredo fisso regge due anni, poi diventa un ostacolo: ogni modifica significa demolire, rifare, chiudere. Un allestimento pensato come sistema, invece, si sposta in una notte.A shop is not finished on opening day. Brands change, seasons change, the way people enter and move changes. Fittings conceived as fixed furniture last a couple of years, then become an obstacle: every change means demolition, rebuilding, closing. Fittings conceived as a system, by contrast, can be moved overnight.
È la ragione per cui, in Super F#, abbiamo scelto l'acciaio e il bullone invece del pannello incollato alla parete. Un montante può reggere una mensola oggi e una barra appendiabiti fra sei mesi, se i fori sono stati pensati con un passo costante.Steel in retail is often used for how it looks: industrial, raw, recognisable. We are interested first in how it behaves. It can be cut to size, drilled, bolted, taken apart and put back together without losing strength. An upright can carry a shelf today and a hanging rail in six months, if the holes were set out at a constant pitch.

The finish does not hide the joint: it shows it. And a visible joint is a joint that someone, two years from now, will be able to open without calling us.

Un sistema espositivo mobile serve a poco se la luce resta ferma. È l'errore più comune che vediamo: faretti incassati nel cartongesso secondo la prima pianta, e poi, al primo cambio, prodotti al buio e pavimenti illuminati. It is the most common mistake we see: spotlights recessed into plasterboard following the first layout, and then, at the first change, products in shadow and floors lit instead. In modular fittings, light must have the same freedom as the metal.

In Sicilia e a Malta si lavora spesso dentro fondi esistenti: botteghe strette, volte, muri che non si toccano, vincoli che arrivano dopo il contratto d'affitto. Un allestimento smontabile è la risposta più onesta a queste condizioni. Non chiede al locale di diventare altro: ci si appoggia, lo lascia respirare e, il giorno in cui si va via, lo restituisce com'era.In Sicily and Malta we often work inside existing shells: narrow shops, vaults, walls that cannot be touched, constraints that arrive after the lease is signed. Demountable fittings are the most honest answer to these conditions. They do not ask the space to become something else: they lean on it, let it breathe and, when the time comes to leave, hand it back as it was.
C'è anche una ragione economica. Un sistema modulare sposta una parte della spesa dal cantiere all'officina, dove i tempi si controllano meglio e il preventivo è più stabile. Noi fissiamo budget e tempi prima di disegnare, e un allestimento che si monta a secco riduce le sorprese della fase più costosa: quella in cui il negozio è chiuso e non incassa.There is an economic reason too. A modular system shifts part of the spend from the site to the workshop, where timing is easier to control and quotes are steadier. We fix budget and programme before we draw, and dry-assembled fittings reduce surprises in the most expensive phase: the one where the shop is closed and earning nothing.
Infine la seconda vita. Un espositore in acciaio che si smonta può seguire l'attività in un'altra sede, o essere rivenduto. Un controsoffitto su misura finisce in discarica. Non è una questione di moda ambientale: è capitale che resta al committente.Finally, the second life. A steel display unit that comes apart can follow the business to another address, or be resold. A bespoke dropped ceiling ends up in a skip. This is not environmental fashion: it is capital that stays with the client.

Quando queste decisioni sono prese da mani diverse, il passo costante si perde alla prima variante e la flessibilità rimane sulla carta.A modular system works only if someone holds all its parts together: the drawing of the upright, the metalworker who makes it, the electrician drilling the ceiling, the stockroom that will take the deliveries. When those decisions sit in different hands, the constant pitch is lost at the first variation and flexibility stays on paper.
